#Fixit Harrow Network, Harrow Council Street Cleaners Rubbish Bags

As you would have seen from the BBC footage of rats attacking the transparent rubbish bags which were left on the pavement outside Debenhams by Harrow Council Street Cleaners, (24th of July 2017), rubbish bags being left on the street by any person, worker or resident, is only adding to Harrow's growing rodent crisis.

While we appreciate the valuable and tiresome work that the Street Cleaners do for our community, we feel that the efficiency of the rubbish bag collections needs to be improved.

We understand that Harrow Council's Green Team have a lot of work on their hands but, as a community focused group, we feel that this problem needs to be addressed so that we can control the rising rodent crisis in the borough.

We ask Harrow Council, namely Michael Lockwood, the CEO, and Sachin Shah, the leader, if collections of the Street Cleaners rubbish bags could be increased, or perhaps a system put into place whereby the Green Team, who are notified of these outstanding collections, could attend 'hotspots' or high risk areas more frequently. Bags left for collection overnight is only adding to the problem.

This will prevent rodents from attacking the bags and will also serve to discourage fly-tippers from adding their rubbish to a pile of Harrow Council's rubbish bags. We hope to raise awareness about this issue.

We will look forward to hearing from you soon on the outcome of our plea.

Kind Regards

Caren Duhig, #Fixit Harrow Network
