"This Tree" and Peasey Hill Recreation Ground is situated in the heart of Peasey Hill, Malton. Not only is this the only recreation ground and a popular dog walking field in Peasey Hill, but it is also a place of tributes and remembrance.

"This Tree" is a sacred place where a young man devastatingly took his own life and has become a place of tributes and remembrance and also has become a beacon of light for all our young men and women to find their way home in dark times. Javay Mattis was a loving son and a very popular young man who had the most amazing smile a talented sportsman, he was loved by all his friends and family. Walkers and friends alike look after"This Tree" and tend to the flowers and weeds. 

"This Tree" has the whole community behind it for what it represents and to pay respect for a young man who sadly lost his fight and took a piece of our hearts with him. Residential Planning has been presented by Ryedale District Council and on the behalf of Fitzwilliam Malton Estate for Peasey Hill Recreation Ground.  Not having "This Tree" and the recreation ground would be detrimental to the mental health and wellbeing to me, family and friends of Javay and also to all the residents, walkers and children who use this field every day.
