I am starting this petition on behalf of the Rutherford County Class of 2020 in order to show support for a traditional graduation. As you all know our county schools have postponed graduation until July in hopes of giving our seniors a traditional graduation. Unfortunately Governor Cooper has made a decision to remain in Phase 2 which in turn made the county board decide on a non traditional ceremony and choose a "drive thru" ceremony. This is not acceptable as our children have worked hard and deserve more than just a drive thru. The phase 2 order is set to expire on July 15th so if that happens we will be in Phase 3 during graduation. If not then we can still have a traditional ceremony with social distancing. It is unfair that our children are having to suffer and sacrifice during this pandemic when in the meantime rioting and protesting is being allowed. These kids and parents have waited 18 years for this and for the schools to just take it away and choose a drive through is just unacceptable. I am asking you to please sign this petition to fight for the traditional ceremony that they deserve.
