The Murfreesboro Confederate monument has stood downtown Murfreesboro since it was dedicated on November 7, 1901. After years of fund raising and at a cost of $2,800 the monument was unveiled to a crowd of over 3,000. This 116 year old monument was erected in memory of the Confederate soldiers that died in battles around Rutherford County during the Civil War 1861-1865. The setting for this monument, at the Rutherford county courthouse, is truly fitting since one of the battles during the Civil War was fought at the steps of this very building.
