Replace the point based benefits system with a fairer one.

The current points based system for deciding the outcome of benefit claims is outdated and needs upgrading. Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Employment Support allowance (ESA) and its equivalent under Universal Credit (UC) are a lifeline for many people who are unable to work, often for health related reasons.
The way these benefits are awarded is based on almost entirely upon an arbitrary system of points awarded by an assessor in a meeting that lasts roughly 30 minutes, benefits are awarded when a person reaches a certain points thresh hold. These assessments are humiliating and can be harmful, for example i had a PIP assessment because of Anxiety and Depression and was asked if i could make it to the toilet on time which is completely unrelated.
This is a black and white way of judging; what is often a very changeable situation particularly where mental health is concerned with 65% of rejected claims being overturned on appeal.
Please sign this petition to ask the government to reconsider it benefit policy and replace it with one that allows for a more accurate assessment of an individuals needs.
