Rutgers University Class of 2021 In Person Commencement

The recent announcement by Rutgers University President Jonathan Holloway that all spring commencement ceremonies will be held virtually shows a blatant disregard for the Class of 2021. After four years of hard work and a year and a half of virtual classes, the Class of 2021 was respectfully holding on to the hope that the university would try their best to hold a proper graduation ceremony, whether that be commencement without a crowd in SHI Stadium or individual school convocations. The announcement comes on February 11th, a time when 10% of the New Jersey population has been vaccinated and numbers of vaccinations only expected to increase to 70% of the population within the next 6 months. Considering athletic seasons have been given the green light and classes are going to resume in the fall semester, there should be a coordinated effort to utilize the resources that were saved this year and those that a flagship university like Rutgers clearly has. Therefore, as the Class of 2021 we are pledging to withhold any future donation to Rutgers University if a concerted effort isn't made to hold appropriate school convocations or a commencement ceremony by July 2021.
