Make Southwood Golf Course a natural park

Rushmoor Council wants to turn Southwood Golf Course into a natural park that is freely open to all. It would be a country park with things like walking and cycling trails, and play areas for children. The land would be a 'SANG', which means it would permanently protected from development. Creating and maintaining the park would be paid for by developers building houses in other parts of the borough, such as Aldershot and Farnborough town centres.
The proposed park would connect Southwood Woodland (Kennels Lane) with the open land around Cove Brook, so it would enhance those areas too. It could be fantastic for wildlife.
The golf course has been an asset, but it has falling use and now costs the council £40,000 a year to subsidise. Only half of its members live in Rushmoor. The proposed natural parkland would turn this green space into an asset for all local people.
