UTAS and TUU - Divest from Fossil Fuels!

UTAS and TUU - Divest from Fossil Fuels!
In October 2018, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a special report, detailing the estimated impacts of global warming by 1.5˚. This report warned that if coal-powered energy is not almost completely eradicated by 2050, then ice caps will melt, as a result oceans will rise by metres, staple food crops will decline in yield by 10-15%, tropical fisheries will collapse, all coral reefs will be bleached, there will be frequent heat waves and a substantial amount of species will be lost.
The University of Tasmania invests approximately $30-40 million in fossil fuels. The Tasmanian University Union also invests in fossil fuels. If you haven't already, please sign this petition and tell our university not to invest our dollars in extractive industries which are contributing to such harmful climate change.
