Viagogo is a marketplace primarily used for the reselling of entertainment tickets.
Many people have suffered financial loss and emotional stress due to this companies actions.
Viagogo is accused of adding hidden fees and charging payment methods with amounts the customer did not authorise. They also often do not even send the tickets that have been purchased and often the tickets they do send are printed with another name on them meaning the customer is unable to gain entry to the venue.
I myself fell victim to this when purchasing two tickets to a concert. The cost of the tickets were displayed and my card details were required. My payment card was charges with large fees that were not advertised on the page and not displayed on the checkout. The site also puts unnecessary pressure on customers to purchase by giving them a few minutes to checkout and threatening to release the tickets back onto sale if the customer takes too long.
The price that is advertised when selecting the tickets is much less than the amount that is actually debited once the customer has typed in their card details. This ultimately means Viagogo take an unauthorised payment which often leaves customers in financial distress as they may not be able to afford such high, unexpected fees. The first time the charges are clearly displayed are after the payment method has been debited. There are then no options to cancel this order. Instead, the option to resell the tickets are provided which means more charges will be incurred, a long wait for money to be returned - sometimes taking over a year, and ultimately more profit for Viagogo.
A quick look on Twitter and Facebook and it is clear to see this is happening to hundreds of consumers who have collectively lost tens of thousands of pounds. Whilst Viagogo has refunded some of these payments, they have also ignored customers leaving them in distress.
I petition RT Hon Margot James MP and Rt Hon Theresa May to demand the retailer displays fees in a more transparent and fair way before a purchase is made. I also ask that Viagogo change their complaints procedure and promise a fair outcome for those that have recieved invalid tickets or who haven't received tickets at all. I believe that a "cooling off" period for customers to cancel purchases, so long as there is at least a week until the actual event.
I also believe that customers that have lost money due to this issue should be reimbursed, including myself.
