Reinstate Functional Skills as an alternative to GCSE C Level 3 Early Years Educators EYEs

This petition had 439 supporters

In 2014, the Government altered the requirements for those taking a Level 3 in childcare. Now, all Level 3 Early Years Educators (EYEs) must have at least a C grade in GCSE English and maths to count in the ratios - with equitable alternatives such as Functional Skills no longer considered as an option. Please Help Save Our Early Year's We all agree that English and maths are important for the childcare workforce - but Functional Skills in English and maths also provide staff with essential soft skills and must be accepted as an alternative for Level 3 EYEs. with many excellent practitioners being denied the opportunity to improve the lives of young people in the vital Early Years.  The potential new recruits, who have all the skills, including good English and maths, to be excellent Early Years Educators, will be barred from the sector. Its only a matter of time before we do not have the practitioners to fill the much needed roles which will have catastrophic impact on the Early Years sector, and in turn on parents and children.  So lets do something before it too late! help Save Our Early's - Reinstate Functional skills.
