Bassetlaw must have a referendum before any decision on devolution.

In an Extraordinary Meeting on 17th March 2016, Bassetlaw District Council (BDC) took a decision to join the Sheffield City Region as a constituent member. That decision we believe was taken with undue haste. Devolution of power away from central government may offer many new and exciting opportunities for Bassetlaw and it is important that all options are explored at this formative stage. Such is the importance of the decision we believe that it transcends local politics and that the residents of Bassetlaw should be fully briefed and ultimately it is they who should decide the fate of Bassetlaw in a devolution referendum.
We request that Bassetlaw District Council holds a public referendum to seek the views of the residents of Bassetlaw on the question of whether Bassetlaw should become a constituent member of Sheffield City Region Combined Authority or continue to work with the District/Borough/Unitary and County Authorities in Nottinghamshire
