Gill Byrne started this petition to Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP and

We want the UK Treasury to use the tax system to award bonus pay to frontline staff whose work and dedication are getting the UK through the Coronavirus pandemic.  While people are being paid to stay at home and stay safe another sector of the population are putting themselves at risk for no increased financial reward despite the serious risk to their own health and the health of others.  Bonus pay should be paid to all the staff currently expected to work through this virus, often in the most riskiest frontline professions, and many low paid.  This includes NHS staff including healthcare assistants on modest wages, and also shop assistants, cleaners, teachers, bus drivers, other transport workers, postal staff, home carers and carers in other settings, childcare staff, support assistants in schools that have stayed open and many others.  Their dedication and bravery should be recognised at this stressful and difficult time through a financial reward bonus scheme direct from the Treasury via the UK tax system.
