Change the inefficient system for housing modification for people with disabilities.

Change the inefficient system for housing modification for people with disabilities.
Why this petition matters

On behalf of all New Zealanders, I'm starting a petition to fix the disability system when it comes to getting the resources and facilities needed and speeding up waiting times for housing modification. At the moment the District Health Boards and Enable NZ have an extremely slow and inefficient system. I have spoken to a number of people who have gone through the same thing as I have while dealing with the system. There is too much bureaucracy involved when it comes to dealing with the DHB's up and down the country.
Our Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights says -
“Every consumer has the right to have services provided in a manner that respects the dignity and independence of the individual”
"you have the right to have services provided in a manner that minimizes the potential harm to my being and optimizes the quality of my life".
Peoples dignity and independence are not being respected by having to wait excessive amounts of time per case in order to acquire the basic and necessary services required.
We would like to ask for a Royal Commission to be set up to look at the state of our access to equipment and housing modifications for people with disabilities and what needs to be done to improve both.
Also, we would like to set up a separate department called the Accessibility and Equipment Modification Department. The purpose of this department would be to look for both private sector and public sector funding to ensure that people get the equipment, bathroom and housing modifications they need in an appropriate time frame. Moreover, they should make the client feel like they are part of the process from the beginning and provide sufficient support and innovative solutions.
I started this petition because...
I have been waiting for over 18 months for my bathroom modification from my local DHB in Dunedin. In my view, the disability system is broken when it comes to this issue.
