Give Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight a knighthood

This petition had 32 supporters

Steven Knight is a writer and film director who has made waves globally - but never lost sight of his roots.

He has been creating television for nearly 25 years with mass appeal, from Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? to the Detectives. Since 2002, when he penned the hit film Dirty Pretty Things, he has been a force in Hollywood, writing an directing the films Locke and Hummingbird.

But it is through Peaky Blinders, and a love for the mythology of Birmingham, that Mr Knight has captured the hearts of his fellow Brummies.

The programme, following the Shelby family, has given Birmingham an international platform. But more than that, it has also given some pride back to a city which was once the centre of the industrial world.

More than that, he remains focused on improving the city of his birth. Since 2014, he has been pushing to create a big film studio in Birmingham, in an attempt to turn around a decline in the city's production industry which shows few other signs of abating.

He clearly loves Birmingham - and wants to play a part in improving the city's reputation, which it ill deserves.

For services to Birmingham, not to mention services to the UK film and television industry, let's make it Sir Steven.
