RSPCA - Rethink Frontline Redundancies

Recent news

Thank You for Your Support

I'd just like to say a massive, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has signed and shared the petition so far. Your actions have already made the front line staff at the RSPCA feel heard and humbled, because you are acknowledging all of the hard work that they do.

Every single Collection Officer, Welfare Officer and Inspector lives and breathes for the animals in their care. They are the keystone to the Society's mission statement, "..prevent cruelty, promote kindness to and alleviate suffering of all animals." Yet, it can so easily be argued that the proposed, bottom-up approach to redundancies undermines this very ethos.

There can be no compromise when it comes to animal welfare; the front line is a lifeline to many animals with more than 102,900 animals being rescued and 130,700 complaints responded to in 2018 alone. So every effort must be made by those at the top to minimise the reduction in the effectiveness of the front line to perform its duties. Any number of cuts would have a negative impact, so any need for substantial reductions in outgoings should be sought elsewhere, by all other means at their disposal.

I eagerly anticipate a response from Unite the Union in a future update. In the meantime, thank you again and please keep sharing to have the consultation remain as visible and as accountable a process as possible.
