We are opposed to a change of land-use to the parcel at 300 S. Duncan Ave, located in the historic, Skycrest Neighborhood in Clearwater and we are opposed to the development of a storage facility on this parcel. The proposed storage facility is the reason the zoning was recently changed from "Office General/Future Residential" to "Commercial" and is the reason the land-use change is currently being requested.
The proposed land-use change and development project does not fit the character of this established, older neighborhood. Such a change would create a dead-zone in the neighborhood and eliminate a hub of economic activity that has existed in this historic neighborhood for over 40 years, as there is currently an office building for small businesses on this lot.
Changing the land-use in this neighborhood sets a precedent that opens the door for land-use change in other older neighborhoods throughout the County. This type of facility does not belong 30 feet away from homes; it belongs in an industrial park or warehouse district.
