Recently President Trump rescinded an Obama Executive Order that instruced public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathroom and locker rooms that conincide with their gender identity. This petition aims to encourage the administration of Ronald Reagan High School in Milwaukee, WI to make it their official policy, that trasngender students be allowed to use the facilities that coincide with their gender identity, even without the federal instruction.
During my four years at RRHS I have seen the LGBTQ+ community in this school grow and along with it the rest of the school’s acceptance on LGBTQ+ peoples. However, after the Trump administration rescinded the guidance that the Obama administration gave in the form of an executive order, instructing that transgender students should be allowed to use the restroom and other facilities that correspond with their gender identity, I have seen people who do not believe in transgender rights become bolder and far more vocal. I think it's essential that the right's of transgender peoples be protected in these times of uncertainty for the LGBTQ+ community. Being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, openly, takes a lot of heart and bravery, and this bravery should be commemorated not a cause for discrimination.
