In 2015, on June 13th, a bill was signed into law that allowed concealed handgun permit holders to carry their gun. The law became effective on January 1st, 2016. Since then we have witness several homicides and mass murders. Nevertheless, in 2013, on June 14th, law SB 1907 was signed. This law was signed by Governor Perry, which doesn't allow institution of higher education or private and or independent institution of higher education to enforce policies prohibiting students with firearm to carry their firearm openly on the street or driveway near school and in parking areas located on campus.

On April 20, 1999, two teens went on a shooting spree at Columbine High School in Littleton,Colorado, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before turning their guns on themselves and committing suicide. Investigators later learned Harris and Klebold had arrived in separate cars at Columbine around 11:10 on the morning of the massacre. The two then walked into the school cafeteria, where they placed two duffel bags each containing a 20-pound propane bomb set to explode at 11:17 a.m. The teens then went back outside to their cars to wait for the bombs to go off. When the bombs failed to detonate, Harris and Klebold began their shooting spree. There was speculation that the two committed the killings because they had been bullied, were members of a group of social outcasts that was fascinated by Goth culture, or had been influenced by violent video games and music; however none of these theories was ever proven.

It was not the typical story where the press shows up after the event occurs and reports what happened.  It was riveting drama for daytime television. Breathless high school students in fear of their lives. Mad assassins inside a school. Nearly 2,000 high school hostages. Frantic parents. A situation out of control. The crime was the worst high school shooting in U.S. history and prompted a national debate on gun control and school safety, as well as a major investigation to determine what motivated the gunmen, Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17.

The recent laws have negatively impacted communities around the United States of America. Law SB 1907 affects college students, staff, and faculty members. Universities in Texas range from 15,000 students, staff, and faculty to more than 40,000 on campus. Open carry can cause sexual assault, fear, and outrage violence among students.

President Obama mentioned in his recent speech that the number of individuals who has died due to being shot by a firearm is at a high peak. We have witness several homicide, suicide, unintentional shooting, and mass murders making headlines. This summer we viewed our television screen as we watched the mass murders in California and Florida. These two mass murdered combined killed and injured over one hundred individuals. America was devastated due to the tragic death of over a hundred individuals.

The state of Texas has increased the number of gun ownership which will eventually increase the gun death rate. The recent events caused frustration within many communities, which has led to evil corruption not only in our communities but our nation. Members of the community are fighting violence with violence.

Nevertheless, the recent events portrays violence is the only option to the younger generation. The corruption in our country has caused for a division in our community. America must reduce the rate of gun violence by establishing different approaches. Justice must be served fairly and equally towards each individual. Also, we must come together as a community with love, prayer, and unity.
