Raising awareness of the effects of shark finning
Raising awareness of the effects of shark finning

Shark finning is common in Asian countries and is done as part of a delicacy. They are captured, their fins sawed off and thrown back into the ocean to drown or become prey to other animals. However, the way this is done is inhumane and no animal should suffer the way sharks do. Millions are slaughtered every year, resulting in most species being on the brink of extinction; and this is all for texture in soup. Sharks are given a bad name thanks to films like Jaws but the sad truth is more people are killed by vending machines a year than by sharks. We need sharks more than we realise but no one is made aware. Phytoplankton in the ocean produces 70% of the oxygen we breathe. When sharks go, there will be an abundance of fish, resulting in a decrease of phytoplankton, resulting in less oxygen for us to breathe. At the rate the forests are being destroyed and the sharks are being annihilated, there’s no hope for humans or wildlife in the near future and there’s certainly no going back. Once they’re gone, they’re gone..sharks have survived for over 400 million years, but could not survive mankind.
