Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP): Stop using real fur on the RCMP uniform (winter hat, parka etc)

This petition had 15,195 supporters

Each year in Canada, over 3 million fur-bearing animals are killed and skinned for fashion and bits of trim.

The Association for the Protection of Fur-Bearing animals has long campaigned against the RCMP for using fur, especially when they are funded by taxpayer money.

In the past, we have met with the RCMP uniform division in person to show them photos and videos of animals suffering in traps. We have also offered to help raise funds to research and test suitable non-animal alternatives for their uniform.

Despite our best efforts, the RCMP continues to ignore our pleas on behalf of the animals.

The Director of the Uniform and Equipment Program for the RCMP, Guy Rochette, Supt., claims the use of fur is important for health and safety reasons. Rochette says, “I can assure you that the RCMP is well aware of public opinion on the use of fur and is taking this into serious consideration. (But) At the end of the day, the health and safety requirements of our members remains our number one priority – and there will be no compromise." (Jan. 2009)

We need your support to help encourage the RCMP to stop using fur on their uniform and replace it with a non-animal alternative.
