Just to clarify: The intent of this petition is to focus on the error made by the Royal Canadian Mint when they struck the $20.00 pure silver coin depicting the “Dieppe Raid: as “The Battle of Dieppe”

The Royal Canadian Mint slighted Veterans and the City of Dieppe NB by unveiling a coin at the Royal Canadian Legion 6 Moncton NB depicting the “Dieppe Raid” as “The Battle of Dieppe”.  The City of Dieppe and the Dieppe Military Veterans’ Association deserve better.

This can only be part of the Royal Canadian Mint’s effort to cover up their incompetence.  The Canadian and Dieppe France historical connection to the infamous “Dieppe Raid” is inseparable.   The Dieppe Military Veterans’ Association in conjunction with the City of Dieppe NB and the City of Dieppe France are the recognized gatekeeper of the historical correctness of the “Dieppe Raid”.  The Royal Canadian Mint has done a disservice to the Dieppe Community, including but not limited to the Dieppe Military Veterans’ Association and the citizens of our great City.  The mints reputation as an honest broker, an honest corporate citizen or the underwriter body for the Canadian coin manufacturing industry tarnished…

We are under the impression that the coin was a mistake and the mint knew it. We along with others invitees duped into being in collusion with the Mint to their benefit and our disappointment… Why else would the Mint choose a remote location away from the most prominent “Dieppe Raid” Cenotaph located in the heart of Dieppe NB that honors the “Dieppe Raid”? Moreover, could have provided a full compliment color party from the Dieppe Military Veterans’ Association for the unveiling?

When the coin was unveiled, the whole room was astounded to discover that the coin erroneously depicted the "Dieppe Raid" as a Battle... Following the gathering, we asked many of those in attendance if the Mint advised them in advance, their responses, we knew little or nothing. So goes the story.

The Royal Canadian Mint has a credibility problem and demonstrates disrespect for truth.  An apology is not enough.  The article by the Mint in published in Coin Week for instance, consistently slants to false hoods and innuendos involving others who were not any more part of the official party or the secret scheme than we were. We know for instance that the Legion and the Dieppe Military Veterans members very surprised and visibly disappointed. The Royal Canadian Mint needs to recall the coin and make a formal apology to all. The fact is that the Royal Canadian Mint made a mistake and we are asking them to acknowledge and make the correction for the sake of history and their credibility.

Society will want that the Royal Canadian Mint will do the right thing and recall the coin, live up to their mistake and strike a coin that truly depicts the “Dieppe Raid” It is the right thing to do… We now have the dubious task of apologizing in prayer to the 913 Canadians who bravely gave their lives on the beaches of Dieppe France during the “Dieppe Raid”.
