The removal of United States Troops from the border of Turkey and Syria will endanger the Kurdish forces protecting local villages and maintaining security around encampments of Islamic State fighters. In 2014, ISIS pillaged Sinjar and Mosul, torturing and selling both Kurdish and Yazidi populations. The Kurdish Peshmerga helped maintain security for medical teams, pushed ISIS forces back, and ultimately provided one of the largest military resources against ISIS to liberate Mosul from terrorist control. This is not the first time we have abandoned our Kurdish allies. In 1991 President George H. Bush I called upon the Kurdish people to fight against Saddam Hussein only to leave them ripe for a massacre conducted by Iraq. Without Kurdish fighters, we would not have successfully defeated ISIS. If we betray the Kurdish people, we risk losing a faithful ally in the Middle East. We may also see a rise in ISIS activity and risk liberating ISIS fighters from their  encampments. I am calling upon our Senators to be a voice against leaving the Kurdish people without aid against Turkey. Securing the Kurdish fighters near the border of Turkey will protect America's integrity, maintain the Kurdish people as allies, and ensure global safety against ISIS.
