We are petitioning to eradicate the use of commonly used high density polyethylene plastic binding that holds disposable beverages in place. There are about 18 billion pounds of plastic floating in the ocean, and about 40 percent of this is single-use plastic, such as plastic binding. A study conducted in 1987 reported that about a million seabirds and up to 100,000 marine animals were killed by 6 pack plastic binding. Major companies, such as Carlsberg which is a Denmark based globally recognized brewery have cost efficiently removed the use of plastic binding around their drinks. We believe that if companies on a scale as large as this can be cost efficient while switching to a more environmentally safe alternative, then so can companies selling products in North Carolina.
