The Rowan-Salisbury School district is considering a plan to consolidate schools in the interest of saving money.  Under the proposed plan, each area of the Rowan-Salisbury district - Salisbury, West, East, and South - would have their old community schools demolished in favor of new consolidated facilities (see proposed plan here: Consolidation Plan). 

All of the areas that is, except for one: North Rowan.  Under the proposal, North Rowan High School would be closed, the campus demolished, and its students reassigned to existing schools.  The two primary reasons cited for closing North Rowan, facilities in need of repair and low enrollment, are both a direct result of previous and current district policies. 

Closing North Rowan would negatively impact the towns of Spencer and East Spencer, overburden surrounding high schools, and fail to best serve the students of the North Rowan community.  The Town of Spencer officially opposes the closing of North Rowan (see article) as does the Salisbury Post (see opinion).
