----UPDATE: TOWER PERMIT APPROVED & TWO EASY WAYS TO HELP-----

Despite leading us to believe otherwise, C800 is still pursuing the 200 ft tall communications tower at Marylhurst Heights Park on the ODOT parcel in the middle of a residential neighborhood.  THEIR PERMIT HAS BEEN APPROVED BY CLACKAMAS COUNTY, who has agreed to hold their letter of approval until January.

This tower is needed to improve in-building communication coverage for the City of Lake Oswego (Cooks Butte and Skyland sites were preferred, but Lake Oswego successfully blocked those locations).  In-building coverage for West Linn is already sufficient (per John Hartsock, C800 project manager).

OUR BEST CHANCE TO PREVENT THIS TOWER IS FOR WEST LINN TO ANNEX THE ODOT PARCEL.  Annexation, be it expedited or standard process, is possible before C800 receives the official go-ahead in January.  Annexation brings the ODOT parcel (which is an island within our City limits) under City jurisdiction and -therefore- City development code.  Our City development code rightfully DOES NOT ALLOW TOWERS IN RESIDENTIAL ZONES.

Annexation of the parcel is not currently on the West Linn City Council agenda.  City Council has a November 2nd Work Session before their November 9th City Council Meeting.  All meetings are virtual and easy to attend.  We need to get it in their official agenda

TWO EASY WAYS TO HELP:

  1. Request to "speak" by phone or videoconference up to 5 minutes for the Nov 2nd and Nov 9th Council meetings: https://westlinnoregon.gov/citycouncil/meeting-request-speak-signup  Attend the meetings by signing up to speak, then decline to speak when called upon.  This fills the virtual seats and draws attention to our desire to annex. Requests to speak must be submitted before noon the day of the meeting.
  2. Send an email to City Council citycouncil@westlinnoregon.gov and request that it be read it into the records at their Nov 2nd and Nov 9th meetings.

Please, share this petition link ( https://www.change.org/No-Park-Tower ) via social media, texting, and going around to your neighbors who may not be aware.

--------ORIGINAL PETITION BELOW--------

Please sign this petition to let Clackamas County Planning & Land Use Dept., ODOT, Clackamas 800 Radio Group, and West Linn City Council know that we do not support the 200 ft communication tower being built at Marylhurst Heights Park or in any of West Linn's other residential areas.

We urge Clackamas 800 Radio Group to seek an alternate location for the tower outside of West Linn's residential areas.

Clackamas County Planning & Land Use Department is expected to approve Clackamas 800 Radio Group’s application to build a 200 ft tall communications tower in the small wooded area adjacent to Marylhurst Heights Park in the middle of a residential area.

This tower was originally intended to be built in Lake Oswego, but residents there put up a successful fight and now it’s coming to our backyard.

Concerns have been raised about the aesthetics of a 200 ft communications tower in the middle of our neighborhoods and imposing upon a park, its potential to detract from property values, and the health hazards it may pose to residents.

The construction of the tower at this location will also prevent the City of West Linn from carrying out its long-term plan of purchasing this wooded area from ODOT to expand Marylhurst Heights Park and preserve our city's precious few natural spaces.
