Rotary International; Stop the Gun Raffles!

0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!

Now is the time for Rotary International to stop permitting its member clubs to hold Rotary-sponsored gun raffles, gun shows and give-aways.

Rotary International is a worldwide service organization that promotes peace and does good work all over the globe. From its participation in the (almost) eradication of polio, to placing feet on the ground in disaster zones, to long-term infrastructure improvement projects in the most impoverished of countries, Rotary International is a force for good in this world. A present area of focus for the organization is promoting peace. As members of Rotary, we feel that part of promoting peace must include ensuring that Rotary branded events are free from the exchange of weapons of war.

Background of this issue:

  • In January 2017, Rotary International revised its policies to prohibit Rotary clubs from conducting gun shows, raffling guns and using the Rotary logo in connection with such events.
  • After the policy was announced, the NRA and other organizations mounted a swift and strong response which resulted in Rotary International reversing the policy and instead adopting a policy explicitly allow Clubs to hold gun raffles, etc.

The current Rotary International policy on guns:

Rotary clubs, Rotary districts, and other Rotary Entities may participate in activities involving the sale, give-away or transfer, including raffles, of guns, weapons or other armaments, provided they never take ownership of the item(s) and any transfer of ownership of a firearm is handled by a licensed third party in compliance with all applicable laws. Any use of the Rotary Marks in connection with such activities shall be in compliance with RI policy, including policy for use of the Rotary Marks.

Sign our petition to tell Rotary International that an organization created to improve the world has no place sponsoring gun raffles, gun shows, or gun giveaways.
