Mail On Sunday reporter Ross Slater manipulated volunteers at the Trussell Trust into giving him a food parcel voucher without showing any ID and this "story" was published "No ID, no checks... and vouchers for sob stories. The truth behind those shock food bank claims".   The aim of their "story" was to rubbish the figures released this week by the Trust which shows that almost 1 million parcels were given by them last year. This is shockingly just a third of the total of parcels given collectively by British Food Banks in 2012/13.

The Trussell Trust is a christian charity who would not turn away anybody in desperate need. Their policy is to give up to 9 food parcels per year, entitling the claimant to just 27 days worth of food. Per family. Per year.

We feel that the reporters who worked on this story ( Ross Slater, Simon Murphy, Sanchez Manning,  Amanda Perthen and Tracy Kandohla) should volunteer for the Trust for 6 months in order to meet the people behind their screaming headlines. Feed the unemployed, the needy, the immigrants, the homeless, the disabled and yes, even the employed workers who simply cannot make ends meet.

If, after spending time with recipients and volunteers alike, you still believe Britain can feed itself and that food bank users are "abusing the systerm", please do write a follow-up article.
