In June, 2005, one of America's most offensive sculptures was unveiled in Salem, Massachusetts.
It depicts pop-culture witch, Samantha Stevens from the TV show Bewitched riding a broom across a crescent moon.
Despite the show taking place in Connecticut, TV Land paid $75,000 for the statue to be erected in Salem's Lappin Park, as part of their promotional rerun campaign.
This whimsical statue is not offensive in its own right. But when placed in this particular context, with Salem's tragic history at its source, it trivializes the deaths of the witch trial victims.
