Dear Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley,

We urge you to push for change, and to help us make Termination of Tenancy Without Cause illegal in Oregon. Termination of Tenancy Without Cause is the number one cause of homelessness in Oregon. It hurts the most vulnerable people and families of your state, people like Stephanie Fantastic, who was notified by Bell Real Estate on October 2nd 2017 that her tenancy would be terminated without cause and she would need to find new housing while 9 months pregnant. We find her case to be not only morally wrong but also a flagrant disregard of Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

(1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.

(2) Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.

The treatment of Stephanie and all victims of termination without cause is wrong. We are signing to show you that the international community has taken note of this. Stephanie and her husband are being forced from their home December 1st, 2017 with a newborn and facing the very real risk of homelessness, not to mention unimaginable stress and financial pressure at a time that should be joyous. We will fight for Stephanie and others to be protected from amoral landlords and estate agents. Will you join us?
