Broward County Sheriff Greg Tony (Tony) has shown that he is inept to lead the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO). Two separate unions consisting of BSO deputies and lieutenants overwhelmingly voted that they have no confidence in his leadership.  He has been caught on numerous occasions degrading his personnel to earn the moniker “Temper Tony.”

Further, recent allegations show that he has lied and attempted to deceive others in order to further his career.  Tony killed a man at the age of 14, and though he was acquitted of the crime, he was never found innocent.  All law enforcement applicants in the state of Florida are required to admit any type of interaction with law enforcement, even if that interaction was as juvenile and the record was “sealed.”  Tony lied on his application by stating no to any previous interaction.  One has to wonder why Tony admitted on his application that he was involved in purchasing items with drug money and illegal graffiti, though never arrested or charged, but declined to mention the killing he was involved in.  In a Sun Sentinel article form May 4, 2020, Tony’s former supervisor from his initial Law Enforcement job stated that Tony would have never been hired had he disclosed the killing he participated in as required by law.

Tony’s behavior prior becoming Sheriff is questionable.  As a public official, Tony’s private life is held to a higher standard than a private citizen.  Recent pictures of himself and his wife (herself a public official by managing his re-election campaign) at known swinger meetups throughout south Florida have come under scrutiny.  These swinger groups are known to partake in illegal drug activities amongst other acts that call into question an individual’s moral character.  

Tony’s subordinates have lost faith in his leadership.  Tony’s actions prior to being appointed Sheriff is of great concern to his integrity for such a crucial public position.  TONY IS NOT THE INDIVIDUAL TO LEAD BSO.
