Will Florida districts take care of us non-classroom staff and faculty in the same way as Pinellas, Alachua, and Miami-Dade? Tired of being left out even though as a counselor and now dean I am held to the same recertification requirements, get paid on the teacher scale, and our badges even say teacher. What about every other vital role? Bus drivers, front office, paras, custodians, etc. We showed up, day after day, risking ourselves and our families. Will they take us into consideration like those counties are doing?? Furthermore, what about all other bonuses that have completely overlooked the pivotal roles we play and the high standards to which we are also held? Are media specialists, coaches, deans, etc not pivotal to the learning opportunities provided to students? This division and teacher classification only when it's convenient to the Dept of Education needs to stop! Clearly we are not valued so we must advocate for ourselves. Shout out to those districts for doing the right thing. I hope this decision carries over into all other bonuses their "non-classroom" faculty and staff are left out of. It's time for this discrimination to stop!
