Changing the name of the City of Plantation

For too long has the City of Plantation allowed for its name to be a symbol of its racist confederate past. In the wake of the Black Lives Matter Movement and the protests around the country I believe this is the perfect time for the city to align itself on the right side of history by casting away a name that does it no justice. Plantation and the areas surrounding it are a diverse melting pot that shouldn’t have to carry a reminder of oppression in its namesake. I believe this will spark a renewed faith in our city council and give way for a new history to be told that separates itself from a shameful past. We as a country are going through radical changes and I would like to see our beloved town follow suit to other places that are condemning and removing confederate monuments. This simple name change will signify our step into a new era of social consciousness. The new name should be voted upon by the people and submitted by the people. The first suggestion is Jacaranda, named after the Jacaranda plant, plaza, and community. This is a familiar and friendlier name to the community and can easily still distinguish the place it’s referring too. It can be made into Jacaranda City, Ville or any other version that denotes a township. Please help us really make the community ours beginning with the name!
