Taylor Layner started this petition to Governor Ron DeSantis

Dear Governor DeSantis,

I hope that you are staying safe and healthy. With the reopening of restaurants, retail stores, barbers, salons, and now gyms. We have also welcomed Pro Teams from out of our state to come practice and play games here. Something is missing though and it should be something that is important with COVID. There’s something that must be addressed... youth sports.

With families around the state of Florida closing in on close to two months inside. Being outside in this FL Heat and humidity has proved that it kills the Coronavirus. Why are we holding back baseball and softball? There are ways around all of the worry of COVID and making sure everyone stays safe.

Examples: each team needing to bring hand sanitizer.
Fans sitting down foul lines and outside the outfield fence..rather than right behind home plate or right next to the players in the dugout,

No hand shakes or touching of any kind. Having sanitizer by both teams will assure that each team sanitizes after each half inning. But with retailers and other stores opening up.. what about sports? Travel sports and youth sports can make it safe as baseball and softball everyone is 6 ft away from one another on a field.

Opening the beaches and gyms should mean opening the fields, travel leagues, and youth leagues as well.

Sports and physical activity is a key in mental health and overall health, it is also long over due. Safety will always come first but there are ways to do schedules and such to minimize interactions with a lot of other teams.

I want to provide you  with a picture of a travel organizations guidelines. To me this is extremely doable and with the feel like temperatures in the 90’s and close to 100, we can really save these kids while keeping everyone safe. The likelihood of them catching a virus in Walmart or target is much higher than in the sun in open air with heat.

Thank you
