Ban Daily Citizen-Use Fireworks in Floyd County, GA.
Why this petition matters

I am not talking about fireworks on July 4th, or other National Holidays. They are expected and prepared for. I don't want to ruin people's fun or be unpatriotic. It's the nightly explosions throughout Floyd County's neighborhoods, until at least midnight the other 363 nights a year, that I take issue with. No one should have to endure 4 hrs of unexpected detonations from their neighbor on a random weeknight. Some are so loud they sound like mortar fire. I fully support that one can do whatever they desire on their property, but this doesn't stay in their yard. The rights of one individual should not supersede the rights of sometimes hundreds of others for miles around. It's not fun or fair to everyone else. In some cases they are being fired at people, pets, and homes. They tie up community resources with 911 calls and put our community at risk. Not only is it disturbing the peace, it's dangerous, causing fires, property damage, injuries, and death. Countless pets are lost and horses get legs broken fleeing in panic from fireworks. It also causes harm to our wildlife and environment. The bad definitely outweighs the good. We have a right to the pursuit of peace and happiness in our own homes at night. We shouldn't have to legislate common courtesy, most of us learn it in grade school. But when diplomacy fails, that is what we're left with. I do not want to make a new law, simply change the ordinance that is already there, so that it better serves our community. Neighborhoods full of working families with jobs in the morning, children who can't sleep, pets in a panic, and family members with PTSD symptoms that often affect the entire family. The police department and our fire marshal agree. It is the commissioners that need to be convinced, and many of them are already in favor. Please sign and share. Let our lawmakers know that we don't need this in our community.
Thank you!
