The reports surrounding this closure make the protecting of this unique Birgittine collection all the more vital. To make a stand against those who wish to sell it off (or worse).... Woman's Hour on BBC Radio 4 could be interested in the story; it needs more public awareness.

Karin Lagergren is a former student of mine and I support her scholarly efforts entirely. Also, as a hated American who has been living in Europe since 1974 (researching and performing 'European' music between the 9th and the 18th century) I am deeply affronted by the biased and superficial reaction of Msgr Beer toward 'American' scholarship.

It is an important collection of books and manuscripts that should be preserved in its entirety for future generations. Whilst digitalisation may be helpful to that end, further research and indexing to establish the depth of especially the hitherto not researched materials, should be undertaken by qualified academics, and urgently so before any decision is made for future guardianship and financing
