Medical marijuana is legal in more than half of the United States, and multiple states have legalized its recreational use. Many NFL players have pleaded to the NFL to reconsider its stance on medical marijuana and consider that it is a viable pain management alternative and potential neuroprotectant after player's long term health and safety have come into jeopardy. Medical marijuana acts as a substitute to addictive pain meds that are being pushed onto young pro athletes as one of the only solutions to chronic pain. The fact that the NFL does not allow for those who could qualify for medical marijuana and instead pushes these opioids onto players should be criminal, and players should not be suspended for benefitting from the health aspects of marijuana and acting in the best interest of their health. This removal of the banned substance would benefit athlete's long term health and the safety of these pro athletes.
