Imagine this. You are an outside linebacker playing for the Chicago Bears. You were just activated from the practice squad like a week ago. When the game is on the line you make a huge sack that would put the Pittsburgh Steelers out of field goal range. You celebrate with your teammates for a bit and then turn your body towards the opponents sideline. You’re not talking to anyone. You’re not flexing. Nothing. And then ref throws up the yellow flag all fans dread and give the Steelers an automatic first down due to TAUNTING. This rule needs to be put to an end. It is the most controversial and stupid penalty probably in all of sports. The fact that players are not allowed to talk smack and have a little bit of fun is the most Gen Z thing I’ve ever seen. If a fight breaks out then you call unnecessary roughness but there shouldn’t be a penalty for hurting a grown man’s feelings. Thank you for listening to my TedTalk.
