The violence and ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya muslims by the Buddhist monks and the Burmese state. The Rohingya  muslims  are stateless even though their history can be traced back to the 8th century. Draconian nationality laws do not recognise them as one of the eight national indeginous races and are seen as illegal immigrants. Their freedom of movement is restricted. The situation is very similar to apartheid. They have faced military crackdowns since 1978. Surely this amounts to crimes against humanity. There have been reports of the Burmese security forces carrying out " summary executions, enforced disappearances, arbitrary arrests and detentions, torture and ill-treatment and forced labour against the community. The international community is suspiciously quiet on this genocide and don't appear to have the appetite to confront the leaders of Myanmar. This includes Aung San Suu Kyi who was elected in amid much hope. Who also won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991. She has been very quite on the matter and refuses to condemn these atrocities outright. This is a humanitarian disaster of biblical proportions. How can we allow this to happen? Regardless of religious backgrounds we all should condemn the Myanmar authorities and fight to repatriate hundreds of thousands of refugees and allow them the same rights under their law. I myself am a muslim and struggle to understand why these people are not being helped. I believe together we can make a difference but are going to have to dig deep. I have a family and cannot bear to imagine the plight of these displaced, wretched people. The orphans and families torn apart
