38.4% of deaths amongst people 15 to 24 years of age have died because of suicide.

Teenage suicide is a problem because it not only prevents the people who die from living a long, fulfilling life, but it causes lots of grief for those who knew them. As well as emotionally and mentally affecting those who knew the person, it also costs a lot financially, as, according to the Suicide Prevention Recourse Centre, on average one suicide costs $1,329,553.

For every death by suicide, it is estimated that as many as 30 people attempt to end their lives. That is approximately 65,300 suicide attempts each year, and in 2018, 3,046 people died because of successful suicide attempts.

Often teenagers with depression feel like there is no one to support them, especially at school. I have created this petition to request that Roger Cook organises and funds more suicide prevention programs in schools across Western Australia.

Thank you for signing my petition,

Caitlyn
