I would like to get a mental health class in school because every 1 in 5 students develops a mental illness before the age of 18.
PBS said: “They often suffer anxiety, difficulty focusing, and social challenges. Half of them drop out of high school, in part because many schools don’t manage to meet their needs.”
Learning about mental illnesses will help bring light to how it affects family, friends, other students part of this school. If one student is able to determine that Anxiety isn’t just a feeling of uneasiness or that depression isn’t only sadness. That’s one more person to speak up to show that the stigma behind it hurts people with mental illnesses and that they aren’t all “ill” or “weak.” Mental illnesses affect males and females, in fact, a statistic from the CDC says “Males take their own lives at nearly four times the rate of females and represent 77.9% of all suicides.” Once students know more about this male and female students will start to feel more comfortable with talking about how they feel and also help the others out.
I'll post updates on
