Stop the building of an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital next to parks and schools

The City of Rocklin, CA will be hearing a proposal by Universal Health Services, Inc. to build a 102 inpatient psychiatric hospital in the Whitney Ranch Planned Community.  The proposed site is next door to a Senior living facility, directly across the street from Whitney High School and within 1 mile of Sunset Ranch Elementary School, Twelve Bridges Jr High and William Jessup University.  There is a community park that is home to soccer and baseball fields, running trails and a playground within 1/2 mile of the proposed site.

This hospital will house psychiatrically ill patients that have been put on an involuntary medical hold due to illness such as active suicidal/homicidal ideation.  The need for such care is a must, however this location is not the most appropriate.  There are safety concerns that potentially affect the elderly directly next door and the thousands of students within walking distance of the proposed site.

Other venues must be considered by the Planning Commission and City Council.  While I commend the City for wanting to provide much needed services, they must do so by taking into account the concerns/safety of their citizens.
