Support for Local Bergton/Fulks Run Campground

Support for Local Bergton/Fulks Run Campground
Why this petition matters
We are in search of support for an upcoming campground in the Fulks Run/Bergton, VA area. The proposed campground, named River's Edge Campground, is located on a 258 +/- acres of farm/mountain land in the Shenandoah Valley. The potential owners are local Rockingham County residents.
The proposed campsite design will include 50 RV (electric/water hookups) sites and 10 tent sites with room to grow in the future. Our sites will be around 60 ft x 40 ft which will provide ample room for campers.
The remaining property will be used for:
- Walking Trails
- Biking Paths
- Bird Watching
- Fishing with river and creek access as well as a catch and release ponds
- Picnic Areas
- Dog Park
- Small playground areas for children and family friendly outdoor games
Some other property uses are:
- Family Reunions
- Church Gatherings
- Field Trips for Schools
We are aware of the fact that we can't control everything around us, but we are working to address some of the concerns. Our dream is to have a property that will allow both local residents as well as travelers to enjoy an amazing piece of property in the peaceful and quiet Shenandoah Valley. We are hoping to bring extra support and revenue to an otherwise underdeveloped part of Rockingham County.
Some proposed obstacles that people have presented are:
- Entrance off of 259 - This is being communicated with local agencies and an approved entrance will be compliant with all regulations. We are also willing to place signs on our property (with Rockingham County approval) to make oncoming traffic aware of an upcoming entrance.
- Noise Levels - We plan to have "quiet time" at night per state campground regulations. Since our sites have electric, there will not be a demand for noisy generators.
- Alcohol Policy - We expect all campers to drink responsibly.
- Environmental Impact - Campgrounds require yearly inspections from the health department to stay licensed. Not only will we stay within compliance from the health department, we are also hoping to work with the USDA to conserve and improve the water and land quality.
- Neighbors - We plan to work with our adjoining neighbors to allow them to utilize the property. We are also interested in their opinions and concerns with the campground and hope to have a strong working relationship, not only with our close neighbors, but everyone in the community.
