Why this petition matters

Started by Kyla Mattson

Please help make County Road 20/Jansen Ave, from Hurst Woods and Shadow Ridge neighborhoods into downtown Rockford, a safer route by singing our petition.

We the undersigned, call on Rockford Public Works, with the support of Rockford City Council and Mayor Renee Haften, to improve safety for our community by:

- Reducing the speed limit from 55mph to a reasonable range of 30mph-40mph. Impacted area is approximately 0.5 miles.

Why reduce the speed limit?

- The speed limit of 55pmh at the immediate entrance of two neighborhoods within the city limits is badly designed for current pedestrian and biking traffic and needs re-thinking. The lack of visibility due to the road curves combined with a limited shoulder further exacerbates the dangers.

- County Road 20/Jansen Ave is the only connection into Riverside Park, downtown Rockford and to the 3 Rockford area schools. This area has seen a significant increase in bike and pedestrian activity by both children and adults.

- Increased utilization and accessibility to Riverside Park and Downtown Rockford Businesses, that the tax payers of these two neighborhoods significantly support.

- Any inconvenience of a reduced speed limit in this half mile route would be outweighed by the gain of peace of mind and sense of a better place for our families to live.
