Online Learning For AlfredState
Why this petition matters
To solve the spread of COVID-19 in Alfred State and save lives the school must push for off campus learning. Last semester Alfred State had to practice remote learning and it worked fine for everyone involved. Alfred State now has the amazing opportunity to plan ahead with its social distance learning but isn’t taking advantage of that forcing its students to return to the college campus if they want to continue their education. Students/Professors are especially not happy about this given the fact that most of there work uses computers which could easily be used at home instead of a packed college campus.
Peter Hotez a pediatrician and molecular virologist and the dean for the national school of tropical medicine at Baylor college said that “The push to reopen schools is guaranteed to fail, social distancing expectations and mask requirements are unrealistic”. For Alfred State to fully expect all of its 4,000 students to fully comply with the CDC guidelines is completely unrealistic. COVID-19 entering Alfred State is inevitable. Within two weeks of reopening the school teachers will become ill. All it will take for Alfred State to become shutdown once again is having another one of its teacher/faculty members hospitalized with COVID-19. However this can be avoided if the school makes the decision to continue with remote learning during this pandemic and not reopen the college campus.
I am urging Alfred State to take this petition seriously and considering remote learning for all programs/classes.
