Equality for Women and Children - Ards & North Down

Women from across North Down and the Ards Peninsula are campaigning for equality for women, children and families in relation to service provision from statutory agencies and Government bodies. County Down has one Women's Centre which is based in Kilcooley. Unlike the other centres across Northern Ireland, they operate without core funding, back office staff or premises which are fit for purpose. The services on the peninsula for women are sparce and reliant on small pieces of funding to deliver small projects.
For example, from the Government Funding Database, one centre in Belfast is supported 500% more than the single centre in Ards North Down even though they deliver the same level of intervention for children aged 0-4.
This campaign is to gather a collective voice for women across the Borough who feel that they are entitled to access to the same services as a woman in Belfast, Londonderry/Derry. These services include affordable childcare, access to education/training and employability skills, young women's support, befriending for older people and positive mental health/wellbeing. Ards North Down Borough has a population of over 160,000. Kilcooley Women's Centre has lobbied for many years for change and equality. Please help us by completing this petition we hope to raise awareness of this equality which we hope will lever in an equal level of service provision and finally provide premises which is fit for purpose.
