Here is the letter we wrote to the CEO of Disney demanding that Disney workers get the rights they should be granted! Please sign the petition below, if you agree with the topic at hand. With your action, these workers can receive the magic they deserve.

Dear Robert Iger, CEO of Disney,

We are writing to you in distress, over how your company treats your workers in Disney theme parks and in factories overseas. It has come to our attention that wages in Disney theme parks are just above minimum wage, but does not provide a living wage for the workers. Many return home, without enough food to eat or enough to provide their families with. These workers continuously try their best to make all Disney visitors happy, meanwhile, they are suffering to make ends meet. It is not fair that workers aren't being treated with the Disney magic they deserve, while they work so hard.

Besides in the Disney theme parks, in factories overseas specifically in China, workers rights are consistently being violated. Last year, there was an undercover investigation of the Wah Tung factory in the city of Heyuan. This factory produces the Little Mermaid dolls that make a large amount of money for the Walt Disney company. Meanwhile, women who work tirelessly in the factory receive just 1p for every doll they produce. They are endure five times the legal limit of work hours to provide for their families.

For a huge, fun loving and "magical" company like Disney, this treatment of workers should not be tolerated.

Disney is violating certain parts of the UDHR, which is a document created for the purpose of granting people their natural born rights.  Article 23 in the UDHR says, “Everyone who works has the right to just and favourable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of human dignity.” Meanwhile many disney workers don’t have living wage and can’t support their family. According to article 24, Disney workers have the right to reasonable working hours. However, their working hours go way beyond what is reasonable and they don’t receive enough money for those overtime hours.

Here, we have asked our community to sign this petition that says they have read and demand that change is given to the workers, to get the rights that they deserve. We are fighting for an increase of pay in both factories and theme parks, an installment safer working conditions and shorter working hours.

We are wishing that you, Robert Iger, will hopefully grant better rights to your workers, after reading our letter!

Sincerely,

Olivia Stern and Molly Byrne, plus many other supporters of this petition.
