The early years are crucial in relation to making a difference to the outcomes for children. Research shows that a nurturing, stimulating environment helps the development of strong attachments, a strong sense of self worth, better language skills and achievement of overall milestones for young children. We now know that brain development in young children continues beyond birth and possibly up to age three. We also know that brain development can be enhanced through the reciprocal interactions within a nurturing and stimulating environment. Many able but disadvantaged children start school with development levels two years behind their peers purely because of the environment and lack of opportunities for play and development in early years. This does not need to happen. Investment in early years can and does make a difference. I have worked in early years and Sure Start for all my professional life. I know that investment makes a difference and children can go on to achieve their potential. Now I need to convince all political parties that this is the case and there needs to be planning for investment in early years. Please help me by signing this petition and by circulating as far and wide as possible. Children need your support.Thank you.
