Because Faith, Reason, and Justice mean we stand for freedom from oppression with all who are marginalized by any institution of power and authority. The teachings of Christ demand no less. It is faith in action. Love, peace, and reconciliation ought to be at the forefront of that for which we stand collectively as a University: not division, discrimination, and alienation.

I'm signing because descrimination is NEVER okay. "I may not be the same, by that's not important. No freedom till we're EQUAL. Damn right I support it." -Maclemore

This has always been an important issue to me. Not only did I attend Eastern for 2 years (1990-1992) but I grew on on campus because I had a parent in administration. Eastern University needs to be a safe place for all Christians.

I am pastor of First Churches of Northampton (ABC/UCC) an Open and Affirming Congregation in Massachusetts. This stance basically means that many members of my congregation would not be welcome to apply for jobs at Eastern College. As a Federated Church, these statements are making our congregation question our continuing financial support of the American Baptist Church at all levels.

Eastern is a place where I was nurtured to love justice for all people, this action by President Duffet does not hold true to that philosophy I have come to base so much of my life on.

I received both a BA and MA from Eastern University. I was taught to be progressive, inclusive, accepting, and non-judgemental. All characteristics of living a life as a follower of Jesus. How Dr. Duffett can possibly feel that this act in any way represents the community of Eastern in beyond comprehensible. Discrimination is not an act of love or justice.

Schools should be a safe place of equality for everyone, regardless of gender identification or sexual orientation.
