Having a black box or event recorder on all motorcycles is essential to give data in the event of an accident. In the auto industry, this is now a requirement for all new vehicles. In the event of an accident, both parties should be held accountable and black boxes examined. This is an issue especially with motorcycles known for speed(crotch rockets). There is mainly one reason for the purchase of these motorcycles. This is racing and high speed travel. When these drivers put themselves in all communities with excessive speed, they risk not only theirs lives, but many others. Why should innocent people be injured or killed and insurance companies pay for their unwillingness to abide by the laws set forth to operate a vehicle. We must be able to collect the data to bring knowledge and education to the community. We must make them accountable for speeding and breaking the law.  I understand that people want to make it private of how they operate a vehicle, but once an accident, an injury or a death occurs, the data needs to be obtained to make changes and to hold the drivers of speeding vehicles accountable.

My son was involved in a horrific accident, but walked away unharmed. He was driving a car which had a black box installed. The speeding motorcyclist did not have a black box. This crash totaled my son's car and destroyed the motorcycle and a young man lost his life.  Many man hours (eight months) had to be used by the state patrol and accident reconstruction teams to bring all evidence to light. Had there been a black box on the motorcycle, the costs of examination and the costs to the insurance companies would of been greatly diminished.  My son was in the wrong place at the wrong time for this speeding motorcyclist. I simply feel that if people are going to break the law, we can find ways to make them now accountable. Everyone needs to make better choices in how they drive. More lives certainly would be saved all across this state and our nation. If people can not control their behavior, then I feel it is our duty to find a way to protect the public.
