Currently the MLB is trying to pass a proposal that would eliminate just around 40 minor League teams which is 25% of the total 160 Milb teams. These teams cannot be eliminated if they are, the communities they are a part of will suffer. In the case of the Erie Seawolves they are hugely involved in the community and the community is heavily involved in them the Seawolves currently rank 80 out of 160 in average attendance. They annually donate over 250,000 dollars, the Seawolves community fund supports youth baseball, education, and wellness, multiple youth baseball and softball teams have been sponsored by the Seawolves, on top of all of that they have strike out cancer weekend, C. Wolfs healthy challenge, an all abilities baseball game, strike out poverty, gloves for kids, fans fight for the cure night, stuff the batters box(second harvest food bank), tickets for veterans, and the Chace Numata scholarship. And that’s just one of the 40 teams being eliminated and now the MLB is trying to take all of that away. I got the privilege to work for the Seawolves this summer and whenever I would work at the popcorn stand and the kids would be all excited and pumped up to get popcorn that’s an amazing feeling that can’t be replicated, I remember when I was a little kid I had a birthday party and I got a baseball from C. Wolf it had all the players signatures and C. Wolfs that moment was amazing and from then on I knew I wanted to work in the sports industry just so I could help others feel the way I felt that day. And I hope that we as a community will ban together and stop the MLB from stripping community’s of their local baseball teams.
